Dear Readers,

Edward Robinson, Publisher, Aqua Feeds: Formulation & BeyondThe first issue of Aqua Feeds: Formulation & Beyond as a full-fledged magazine was launched in the first week of March at Aquaculture 2004 in Honolulu. I am happy about the response we received. I hope that our second issue will strengthen your impression that we are committed to providing a high quality information resource for everyone in the aqua feed industry.

Trade magazines such as ours rely on two sources of revenues: subscriptions and advertisements. Publishers typically employ one of the following two models for revenue generation:

  1. rely extensively on high-priced subscriptions and take only limited advertising; or
  2. distribute the magazine free-of-cost and keep the number and tariffs of advertisements high.

The latter model assumes that the advertisements reach more people simply because the magazine is offered “free”. The validity of this assumption is questionable at best.

We, in Feedware, favor the subscription model with the exception that the subscription rates should be affordable to the broad range of readers we want to reach. We want to follow the subscription model, because we believe that this model primarily focuses on you, the readers of this magazine, and your needs. If we satisfy your needs and earn your subscriptions, advertisements will follow, which will in turn strengthen our ability to serve you better. So, if you are satisfied with the content we deliver, please support us with your subscriptions. A subscription form is attached in this issue. We are also in the process of setting up the facility to do on-line subscriptions on our website, www.feedware.com. Let me know what other services would benefit you and how we could serve you better.
